Something that has become apparent in recent years is that the world of gaming is becoming much more inclusive. If you look at some of the most popular gaming streamers in the world, there is a lot of diversity.
In the past, when you thought about your typical gamer, you would just imagine some nerdy boy. That is no longer the case, as more and more women are now starting to pick up the controller and play the newly released games.
There has been a drastic increase in the number of girl gamers, but why exactly are more women getting into gaming?
Increased Diversity of Games
In the past, there were a lot of limitations in the world of gaming. You could either play 2D adventure games or first-person shooters. These games were designed to be attractive to males and many of them had male protagonists, which made it difficult for some girls to relate to the content that was being produced.
In this day and age, there is a lot more diversity in the games that are being released and companies are trying hard to no longer aim their game at just one gender. Even when you look at games that are typically aimed at a male audience, you can see that the developers are trying to be much more inclusive of female players. If you look at Call of Duty, for example, there are now many badass females that you can play as, which is fantastic for any of you strong women out there.

Covid
Covid meant that many countries were forced to go into lockdown. This meant that people were not able to go to work and they had to stay at home as opposed to hanging out with friends. There are only so many shows on Netflix and so people found themselves getting easily bored.
For a lot of women, this meant trying something that they had never really tried before, gaming. Gaming is a great way to burn a few hours and it is a lot of fun. With all of the games that were released during the lockdown, there were many new games that women were able to play.
A big reason that a lot of ladies do not feel as though they can game is that some of the men in their life have a lot of experience when it comes to gaming. In comparison to the people that had a lot of practice, some women felt as though they were not very good at the games. Because many new games were released, they had the same experience in those games as other players, which made them feel much more confident playing.
Gaming was also a great excuse to be able to spend time with friends during a time where you were not really able to spend time with friends. Many games allow you to work in teams and use voice chat functions, that allowed people to stay close while they were separated.
Career
There is a lot of money to be made in gaming these days if you are good at it. Gaming is now a genuine career path and so of course, many women are cashing in on the chance to make money, all while having fun and who could blame them?
